University of New Haven Partners with HHC for On-Campus Health Center, Virtual Care

April 22, 2025

The University of New Haven and Hartford HealthCare are excited to announce a ground-breaking new partnership. Hartford HealthCare will now operate the university’s on-campus student health center, providing high quality, world-class care to enhance student health services.

In addition to managing the student health center, Hartford HealthCare will oversee the university’s counseling and psychological services, ensuring that students have access to comprehensive and coordinated mental health care.

The collaboration will also extend to athletic training, providing specialized sports medicine and rehabilitation care for the university’s student-athletes.

A key feature of this partnership will be the enhancement of on-campus services through the integration of virtual care options, ensuring that University of New Haven students have access to medical support anytime, anywhere. Through Hartford HealthCare’s telehealth platform, students can connect with healthcare professionals for urgent care visits, mental health consultations, chronic condition management, and follow-up appointments — all from the convenience of their university housing or homes. This seamless integration of virtual care provides timely diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions, from allergies and rashes to sprains and behavioral health, UTIs, earaches, coughs, colds, flu and much more.

This marks Hartford HealthCare’s first collaboration with a university utilizing this advanced technology, setting a new standard for student healthcare.

University of New Haven President Jens Frederiksen, Ph.D., and Hartford HealthCare President and CEO Jeffrey Flaks announced the partnership, reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to fostering healthy communities and supporting their shared belief that health and wellness are vital components of academic and professional success.

The new partnership will officially begin this summer in advance of the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with plans for expansion and enhancement in the future.

New level of care

“The breadth and depth of services that Hartford HealthCare will offer to support our students’ physical and mental health and well-being is remarkable,” said Frederiksen. “In taking these important resources to an entirely new level, we are committing to providing high-quality services when and where our students need them. This is critical to ensuring they are maximizing their return on investment, enabling them to excel as students and in their careers. I am grateful to Jeff and the entire Hartford HealthCare team for their support of and investment in our university and the unlimited potential of our students.”

“We are honored to partner with the University of New Haven to enhance the health and well-being of its students,” said Jeffrey Flaks, President and CEO of Hartford HealthCare. “I could not be prouder of this collaboration. This truly reflects our commitment to providing students with access to world-class healthcare services.

By integrating innovative virtual care solutions and highly personalized, coordinated care, we are empowering students to thrive academically and personally enhancing the overall success of the campus community.”

The University of New Haven is the sixth school in the state to join Hartford HealthCare’s Campus Cares program, which enables students to prioritize their health and well-being through convenient access to a wide range of resources, such as primary care, preventative screenings, mental health referrals and offsite urgent care.
