Global Volunteerism: A Life-Changing Experience
October 30, 2017
Each and every year all across Hartford HealthCare, you can count on your clinicians to give you their very best. You may not know that many of our experts donate their time and expertise here and all across the globe.
Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network physical therapist Ken Bruno is one of them. He gives his time to a global initiative that travels to Peru to help fit and mold prosthetic limbs for those who have lost them as a result of automobile or industrial accidents. Many of those receiving treatment would otherwise be unable to afford it were it not for the donations of time and supplies from people around Connecticut.
Bruno says it was a life changing experience.
“Hugs were everywhere,” he recalled. “It was a very friendly and warm environment.”
The work was intense, but rewarding.
“A lot of it for me was getting them used to being balanced and working on different adaptive equipment to help them be successful,” Bruno said.
