Inside LIFE STAR: A Flight On The Critical-Care Helicopter
November 16, 2017
Meet Jeff Heath.
“Flying around in helicopters is pretty cool,” he says.
But Heath doesn’t fly around in just any helicopter – and he doesn’t do it for fun.
Heath is a member of the medical crew for Hartford HealthCare’s LIFE STAR helicopters. When there is a serious accident, or a person in a life-or-death situation, LIFE STAR gets the call. Jeff is one of many LIFE STAR crew members on standby 24 hours a day, every day of the year — just in case.
“It’s very possibly the worst day of the whole life of that patient that we’re taking,” said Heath, a 17-year LIFE STAR veteran. “They’ve never had a day as bad as this. It’s a day that every single patient in their helicopter wishes they never had to experience.”
