Becoming Grandma (Again) Following Full Knee-Replacement Surgery
March 26, 2018
Karen Castiglione had a goal: to be an active grandmother to her six grandchildren.
But joint pain, specifically in her knee, was in the way for Karen — and she didn’t like it.
“The pain had become too much. It hurt. It hurt a lot,” she said. “I couldn’t walk. I was upset. I was depressed because I couldn’t do the things I wanted to do, especially when I saw my husband go off to their games and championships. I would sit and pout.”
That’s when Karen decided to schedule the surgery she’d been putting off: a total knee replacement at the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center.
The thought of surgery scared Karen. But once she met her team of caregivers, and saw how they came together for her, she knew she’d made the right choice.
Today, she not only attends her grandchildren’s sporting events but also participates in backyard pickup baseball games with them!
