Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute to Host Low Inflammatory Cooking Series
May 29, 2019
Beginning on June 3, the Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital is hosting a three-week cooking series focused on low inflammatory diets. Participants in the series, which is being held in the Bone & Joint Institute’s Demonstration Teaching Kitchen, will learn to prepare meals that are not only delicious, but will also help reduce inflammation. Tired of those aches and pains or has your doctor said that you are at risk of cardiovascular disease? This cooking series will have you enjoying your meals while improving your health and overall quality of life.
“Inflammation is at the center of many chronic illnesses including heart disease, stroke and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis,” explained Chris Barrett, a Clinical Dietician at the Bone & Joint Institute. “All of the recipes will be prepared by an experienced chef and will be loaded with fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains that can assist with reducing inflammation if consistently consumed.”
Participants will work side by side with Barrett and the chef to prepare the meals during the cooking demonstrations allowing them to put the knowledge they have learned during these classes into action.
The first week of the series will focus on preparing breakfasts, the second on lunches and the third on dinners and healthy dessert options.
“This series is very interactive and hands on which helps in the preparation of the meals,” Barrett said. “The highlights include a honey orange quinoa porridge, which can be had for breakfast/lunch or dinner as well as a smoothie which “can’t be beet”! Tired of salads? We have recipes with vegetables which are loaded with flavor that will make those previously bland tasting vegetables a thing of the past, plus they will be ready in less than 15 minutes and help reduce inflammation!”
