University of Hartford Partnership Offers Orthopedic Physical Therapy Program for Advanced Practitioners

Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network and the University of Hartford have partnered to establish an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program.
The program, set to begin later this summer, will provide clinical and academic opportunities necessary to develop advanced practitioners in the field of orthopedic physical therapy and to prepare clinicians to improve the health and healing of the communities we serve through advanced and evidence-enhanced clinical practice, professional development, teaching, lifelong learning, scholarship and community involvement.
Residents will participate in a structured program in accordance with the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) standards and will complete a minimum of 1500 clinical hours (including 150 hours of 1:1 mentored practice), and 300 hours of didactic education content.
Upon completion of the residency, graduates will:
- Be prepared to meet the requirements to test for the Specialist Certification in Orthopedics by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS)
- Become professionally active within the health care community at the state, regional, and national levels
- Be positioned to improve access for patients to highly qualified orthopedic physical therapists within HHC and in the state of Connecticut.
