Why Am I So Tired? It Could Be Sleep Apnea
January 24, 2023
You go to bed. You sleep. You wake up. You’re tired.
Why?
You might have undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea. Pulmonologist and sleep specialist Jeffrey Nascimento, DO, co-director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Windham Hospital, is offering a free, virtual webinar on sleep apnea.
The webinar, “Understanding Obstructive Sleep Apnea,” will be held on Feb. 9, from 5-6 p.m.

Dr. Nascimento notes that common symptoms of sleep apnea include:
- Waking up feeling tired
- Getting up multiple times a night to use the bathroom but there are no diagnosed urinary issues
- Frequent morning or daytime headaches
- Difficulty concentrating
“The symptoms can be far-reaching,” he says.

In addition to the various symptoms, untreated sleep apnea can lead to serious health issues including:
- Cardiovascular disease
- Hypertension
- Stroke
- Heart attack
- Diabetes
The best way to diagnose sleep apnea is with a sleep study, Dr. Nascimento says. Windham Hospital has a Center for Sleep Medicine that conducts sleep studies in an onsite lab as well as outfitting patients for at-home studies.
