Nutrition

While bariatric surgery – or medical weight loss – can help you shed the pounds, developing and practicing healthy nutrition habits are key to maintaining your loss.

Nutritional Guidance

Registered dietitians on the Digestive Health Institute team can help you adjust your habits, plan healthy meals, control portion sizes and embrace new foods that will help you on your weight loss journey. They provide education and guidance before and after surgery and to non-surgical medical weight loss patients, to help you establish habits that ensure success.

Surgical Weight Loss

Surgical weight loss patients are required to attend two visits with a registered dietician prior to surgery. At the first visit, a registered dietitian will assess your nutritional status to determine where you need guidance most and then address those and other guidelines for healthy eating. This can include everything from making healthy snacks to building a balanced plate at mealtimes to reading nutrition labels.

At your second visit, the registered dietitian will teach you behavior modification tools to help you change your eating habits, reduce the risk of surgical complications and sustain your weight loss for life.

Two weeks after surgery, you’ll meet with your registered dietitian to discuss your progress. Follow-up appointments are then scheduled every three months or so to ensure the continued support and guidance needed for success. You can also join any of our periodic classes on nutrition and diet
planning.

Medical Weight Loss

Our medical weight-loss program provides comprehensive nutrition support designed to help you achieve your health goals. We offer three physician-recommended diet plans tailored to meet individual needs, ensuring a personalized approach to weight management. During this session, we'll work together to determine the best plan for your unique health needs and lifestyle, whether you’re looking for structured guidance, flexibility, or long-term sustainability.

Our team is committed to helping you succeed by providing ongoing education, support, and accountability. With expert advice and individualized attention, we empower you to make informed choices and build habits that lead to lasting health improvements. At every step, we’re here to support you on your journey to better health.
